Obituary

Eva D. Rittenhouse Alderfer, age 91, of Souderton, PA, formerly of Harleysville, PA, entered into rest Sunday August 22, 2021, at Souderton Mennonite Home, Souderton, PA.

She was the beloved wife of the late Stanley H. Alderfer for 63 years.

Born June 30, 1930, in Lansdale, PA, she was one of seven children of the late Norman A. & Ellen H. Derstein Rittenhouse.

She graduated from 10th Grade at J. Henry Specht School, Kulpsville, PA in 1946. After graduation she worked at Dexdale Hosiery in Lansdale, PA.

She was baptized on December 1,1946 at Plains Mennonite Church.

She and Stanley were married on September 9, 1950, and she transferred her membership to Salford Mennonite Church on January 1,1951 for the rest of her life. She loved Jesus and was a faithful servant of God throughout her life. She was a long-time member of the Sewing Circle and taught Summer Bible School.

She was an excellent seamstress, doing alterations and mending for many friends and family as well as for Clemens Dry Cleaning. She loved crafting, quilting, flower gardening, cooking, baking and canning. She especially enjoyed welcoming and entertaining her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as other friends and family in her home.

She worked for 22 years at Family Heritage Restaurant as a Banquet Waitress.

She is survived by her daughter, Connie (Feryl) Souder of Harleysville and sons:  David (Pat) of Centerville, PA, Phillip of Wayne, PA, Michael (David L. Culp) of Downingtown, PA. Three grandchildren: Jeremy (Sonja Srama-Souder) Souder, Kara (Zach) Derstine and Cheyenne (James) Rutherford, eight great-grandchildren: Marlena Grace, Charlotte Louise and Lucille Eva Souder; Celeste Josephine, Stellan Christian and Scarlett Genevieve Derstine; Ronan James, and Sloane Ithan Rutherford.

She is also survived by brothers Norman D. Rittenhouse, and James D. (Esther) Rittenhouse, and sister-in-law Esther Mae Godshall.

She was preceded in death by sisters Miriam (Alpheus) Ruth, Mary D. Rittenhouse, and Ruth (Wilmer) Hunsberger, sister-in-law Alice Clemmer Rittenhouse, and brother John D. Rittenhouse.

The family will greet friends from 10:00-11:30AM Friday, August 27, 2021 at The Salford Mennonite Meetinghouse, 480 Groff's Mill Rd, Harleysville, PA.  A Memorial Service will begin at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family kindly requests that all guests wear masks indoors.
