Wilson Nyce Swartley, 88, of Pennsburg, went home to Jesus, his Lord & Savior on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 15, 1937, he was the son of the late Raymond & Katie Swartley.
Wilson grew up on a farm in Doylestown and enjoyed working the land with his family. He loved being part of the marching band at school and was always happy to receive free admission to football games. He never forgot his responsibilities on the farm, however, and rode his motor scooter home to complete his chores.
Wilson's first job outside the farm was at Sommermaid Creamery. His long-time career was as a Superintendent at M&M Stone Quarries for over 30 years. Once he went into semi-retirement, he enjoyed working alongside his son at James K. Swartley Builders.
Wilson was a faithful member of Finland Mennonite Church, where he enjoyed being a part of the worship team. Over the years, he also enjoyed singing in quartets and was a part of the Zion Chorale Society traveling many places to share his love of music. Prior to attending Finland, he led singing at Plains Mennonite Church and served as a youth leader. Wilson's faith in Jesus was at the very core of who he was.
Wilson truly enjoyed the outdoors, including fishing, boating and hunting. He took many trips to Canada over the years to catch walleye and northern pike and he loved water skiing and tubing with family and friends. Another true love of Wilson's was the Philadelphia Eagles and the Philadelphia Phillies. He delighted in sharing all his passions with his family, who meant the world to him and were his greatest pride and joy.
He lovingly leaves behind his children; Jim Swartley (Lynn) of Quakertown, Trish Hoover (Wendell) of Souderton and Carol Ulrich (Buddy) of Colmar; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, with three more on the way! He is also survived by his former wife, Ruth Landis-Ruth, with whom he shared his children; his brother, Raymond Swartley (Marge) of Souderton, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He also leaves behind his stepchildren; Cheryl Trotter of Telford and Bobby Steffan of Allentown, three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Regina (Musselman) Swartley; his son, Dennis Wayne Swartley; and his brothers, Lester Swartley; Robert Swartley and Richard Swartley.
