Obituary

Wayne R. Schankweiler, age 92, of Lansdale, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Roma (Snyder) Schankweiler, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.

Born in 1933, in Shamokin, PA, he was a son of the late John and Myrtle (Strausser) Schankweiler.

Wayne attended Shamokin High School where he played in the high school band from 4th to 12th grade. He played clarinet and was the drum major in his senior year. He met the love of his life, Roma in first grade and they married in 1955.

Upon graduation in 1951, he enlisted in the Unites States Navy. It was during his time stationed in French Morocco, North Africa, after much encouragement from Roma, that he saw his need and accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior. He will be grateful for her witness and knows that they will be together in heaven.

Wayne retired from American Olean Tile Co. after 41 years of service.

Wayne and Roma were members of Calvary Baptist Church for 55 years, and currently are members of Valley Forge Baptist. They have ministered through music at many retirement communities, and mission trips to Peru, Nova Scotia and South Africa.

They moved to Dock Woods and continued to serve there, in church, and other retirement communities.

It is Wayne's desire that all who know him would come to follow his Savior.

In addition to his wife Roma, Wayne is survived by his children David Schankweiler and his wife RuthAnn, Barry Schankweiler and his wife Rosetta, and Paul Schankweiler and his wife Charlotte; grandchildren Heidi Smith and her husband Carl, Edie Riley and her husband Ted, Timothy Schankweiler and his wife Yasmin, Laura Schankweiler and her fiancé Tony Thomas, and Ben and Sam Schankweiler; great grandchildren Evan, Bennett, Hudson Smith and Lauren Schankweiler; and brother John Schankweiler and his wife Joyce.

A funeral service for Wayne will take place at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Derstine Chapel at Dock Woods Community, where the family will greet guests from 1:00 – 1:45 PM. Interment will be private.
