Obituary

Steven Paul Hutchins, age 73, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania, passed away at his home on May 11, 2025.

Born on May 6, 1952, in Kansas City, Kansas, Steven was the son of the late James Gordon Hutchins, Jr. and Margret Mae Hutchins. He was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Carol Matus Hutchins, with whom he shared over 48 years of marriage.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Steven earned his degree in Electrical Engineering and dedicated his career to the service of others. He received numerous honors and accolades throughout his long and respected career, reflecting his commitment to excellence and his community.

In his retirement, Steven embraced a life filled with hobbies and passions. He was an avid kayaker and fisherman, finding peace and joy in the waters of Pennsylvania and New Jersey. As a dedicated member of Calvary Baptist Church of Lansdale, Steven contributed his time and talents to the church community as a Deacon, serving on the Security Team, building various projects, and driving the bus for church and school events. As an Eagle Scout, he served as a District Chairman for the Cradle of Liberty Council, demonstrating his leadership and commitment to youth development. He received multiple training and Commissioner awards including Wood Badge, Commissioner's College and Master of Commissioner Science.

Steven was loved by everyone who knew him. He was kind, funny, and always thought of how he could help his fellow man. His warmth and generosity left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Steven is survived by his sister, Cynthia Duffee Moore, and children, Kimberly Anne Simons (John Simons) and Phillip James Hutchins (Elizabeth Anne Hutchins). He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren: Tristan Simons, Ethan Simons, James Verna, Madelyn Verna, Emily Hutchins, and Abigail Simons.

A viewing will be held at Calvary Baptist Church of Lansdale, 1380 S. Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, on Monday, May 19 at 10 AM followed by a memorial service at 11:30 AM. Interment to follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cradle of Liberty Council, 901 E.8th Ave. Suite 103, King of Prussia, PA 19406 or Calvary Baptist Church in Steven's memory.
