Stephen W. Redding, 72, passed away on April 8, 2019, surrounded by family at his Salford Township, PA home after an illness. He and his wife, Katherine (Sheaffer) Redding, celebrated their 45 th wedding anniversary on September 22 nd of last year.
Born March 1, 1947, in Gettysburg, PA, he was a son of the late Carroll and Virginia (Bly) Redding. He was a 1965 graduate of Gettysburg High School and attended York College. He later did his undergraduate and graduate work at Temple University, earning his PhD ABD in Psychology. He then followed his true passion for nature and the outdoors and went on to become an arborist.
Stephen and his wife established Happy Tree, Ltd., a family owned and operated tree service company in 1978. With his emphasis on tree health and care for the environment, he was able to become a "voice for the trees". He was proud of the devotion to the environment for which his company stands. Happy Tree is well into its second generation and carries on into the future based upon his high standards and dedication.
Stephen loved the outdoors and was a tree activist and avid gardener. He enjoyed raising chickens, writing, and spending time with his family. He never tired of the quest to discover and pursue the many mysteries of life.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Shetlinn W. Redding and the love of his life, Kelsey Henry, Orrian C. Redding and his partner, Tara Duffy, Meurcie K. Zignoli and her husband, Darrin Zignoli, II, and Jaeilyn R. Redding and his best buddy "Roy". Stephen is also survived by Trevor A. Redding, who Stephen was proud to regard as another son, Trevor's spouse Allyson Hocker, their two daughters, Harper and Grayson, and their son, Miles Stephen Redding. Stephen is survived by ten siblings, C. David Redding, Virginia Lee Redding, J. Riley Redding, Sally A. Redding, Kathleen "Kitty" Ross, Cynthia "Cindy" Halloran, Deborah "Debbie" Arnold, Phyllis E. Brady, Sharon E. Hamm and Matthew A. Redding. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews, and an enormous extended family.
He was preceded in death by four siblings, Loring "Charlie" Redding, Michael A. Redding, Timothy J. Redding, and Margaret "Peggi" Redding.
Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of his life beginning at 2PM on Saturday, April 20, 2019, at the family homestead, 126 Reller Road, Green Lane, PA. In lieu of flowers, please plant a tree in Stephen's memory. Arrangements are by Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc. of Franconia Twp., PA.
