Shirley Ann Moyer, of Souderton, passed away surrounded by her family and friends on Friday, December 17 th , 2021, at the age of 69. Shirley was the devoted wife of Gerald W. Moyer, having celebrated their 50 th anniversary on July 31 st . Born in Lansdale, Shirley was the daughter of the late Frank B. Stuart, Jr., and Helen C. (Nyce) Stuart.
Shirley graduated from North Penn High School with the class of 1969, where she played trumpet in the marching band and went to tech school for cosmetology. She enjoyed a 24-year career in manufacturing at Greene Tweed in Kulpsville, PA where she worked her way up to Supervisor and Teacher and made many life-long friends along the way. Shirley enjoyed her time as a manager at the Souderton Community Pool and served for 24 years as an EMT with the Souderton Community Ambulance Association, the highlight of which was when she delivered a baby.
Shirley was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara (Kaler) and Nancy (Benner). In addition to her husband, Gerald, Shirley leaves behind two children: daughter, Julie Zettlemoyer and husband Ronald of Harleysville, and son, Cory Moyer and wife Laura of Red Hill; five grandchildren: Zachary and his girlfriend Alyssa, Cameron and his wife Taylor, Courtney, Adrianna, and Alexander; two brothers: Donald Stuart and wife Ann of Souderton, and Carl Stuart and friend Annie of Lake Ariel; her lifelong best friend Louella, her dog Max, and her beloved 1998 Chevy S-10 Pickup.
Music and travel were two of Shirley's greatest passions throughout her entire life. She was a proud member of "The Blue Lites," a band made up of her Souderton Ambulance coworkers who performed in 13 TV appearances on the Al Alberts Showcase, and even sang backup on his famous song "On the Way to Cape May". She also once sang at the lighting of the Christmas Tree in Washington D.C. Shirley and Louella travelled across the country dozens of times, often for bowling tournaments, visiting thirty-five states, Canada, and Mexico. Shirley and Louella frequented the shore at Long Beach Island, New Jersey for decades. An adventurer, Shirley, rode a motorcycle and drove a bright red 1960's Mustang convertible at various points in her life.
Shirley spent her summers by the backyard pool with her kids and grandkids and enjoyed meticulously tending to her plentiful vegetable gardens and beautiful flowers. Her grandchildren remember their Grammy as the greatest secret-keeper and snack-supplier in the world. She had an uncanny ability to mix up names (dog and human), and let little curse words slip out, no matter the audience. She loved her country, her favorite song being Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" and she always embarrassed her grandkids by retelling stories of them waving an American flag and singing patriotic tunes in front of the fireplace many years ago. Shirley loved endlessly, laughed infectiously, and lived fearlessly until the very end. Shirley wished for everyone to remember to focus on their faith and health, and to always pay it forward.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, January 15, 2022, from 10-11am at Christ Covenant Church, 2200 Mainland Road, Harleysville.
