Obituary

Sarah "Sally" Ann (Riehl) Campion Heddendorf, 94, died at 7:44 PM on Friday, April 5, 2024, at Lutheran Community in Telford, PA. She was born on March 2, 1930, in Philadelphia, PA, the only child of William Franklin and Sarah Ann (White) Riehl. She was preceded in death by her husband of 20 years, William H. Heddendorf.

Sally was the beloved mother of three children, Linda Campion Christian (Paul), William J. Campion III (Julie) and Thomas F. Campion (Kathy); and grandmother of four grandchildren, Cory (Christian) Kapusta (Jeremy), Meagan (Christian) Nice (Ryan), Abigail Campion, and Bridget Campion. She is also survived by five great grandchildren; and four step-children, William, Kathleen, Richard and Joseph Heddendorf, and their children.

Sally's childhood was of modest means living in a row home in the Olney section of Philadelphia, during the Great Depression, which she would reference how life was challenging during this period. She attended Olney High School where Sally flourished when chosen to be a part of a select choir under the direction of Dr. Theodore Nitche. She spent her young adult years raising her three children in Hartsville, PA, and then returned to work as an executive secretary with Prudential Insurance until her retirement in 1990.

Sally married William in September 1990, after a long courtship, with whom she enjoyed dancing, singing, playing cards, and mealtimes, while sharing many happy times cruising and exploring together. Being true "snowbirds", Sally and Bill purchased a condo in Satellite Beach, FL, where they enjoyed the balcony which overlooked the beach, ocean and pool and "Happy Hour" happened every day at 4:00PM! When not in Florida, they resided in Leisure Village, Lakewood, NJ. Sally's favorite place to vacation was Ocean City, NJ, where she instilled the love of the beach and swimming in the ocean in her children. To this day, Linda, Bill and Tom are drawn back to Ocean City and have many fond memories of good times spent with Mom along with her extended family that have now become her legacy. Sally was blessed to spend the last 12 years in the loving care of the staff at Lutheran Community at Telford, where she enjoyed a good social life with new friends. We will miss your love and beautiful smile, Mom. You are forever in our hearts. May you rest in peace.

Family will receive friends for her viewing 10-11 am on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA, where the public funeral service will begin at 11 am. Burial will be private for the family at Oakland Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA.
