Robert Bruce Moyer

Robert Bruce Moyer, “Bruce,” 83, of Sellersville, Pennsylvania left his earthly body to be with the Lord on September 25, 2026. He was born on August 5,1943 to Clyde and Mary Moyer. Bruce and his older brother Barry and younger sister Barbara grew up in Blooming Glen, Pennsylvania.

Bruce graduated from Pennridge High School in 1961 where he excelled both athletically and academically. He later attended Bluffton College and received a bachelor’s degree in mathematics in 1965. Shortly after graduating from Bluffton, Bruce started his teaching and coaching career at Bluffton High School. As the head football coach, Burce compiled a 20-6-1 record over three seasons along with a conference championship and top 10 ranking in the state.

Bruce married Jody Moyer in 1965 and later welcomed two children, Cher (Lutz) and Caleb. Bruce worked as a mathematics teacher and football coach. His coaching career spanned over 27 years, eventually rising to head football coach at Pennridge High School in 1988. In the classroom, Bruce taught mathematics for over 35 years between Bluffton High School, Pennridge High School, and Plumstead Christian School. Whether on the field or in the classroom, Bruce had a gift and passion for teaching and left a lasting impression of good character, a hard work ethic, and integrity on his students and his athletes.

Bruce was a devoted husband and father, lovingly supporting his children’s endeavors in the arts, athletics, academics and careers. Later in life, Bruce could be found tending to his home in Sellersville and the family farm in Bedminster. His impeccable attention to detail and tireless work ethic was showcased in the many improvements he made in both properties over the span of 20 years. He loved being outdoors, riding on his tractor, and working with his hands. He was a problem solver, creator, tinkerer and steward. His family reveres him as a champion in life and faith.

Bruce and his wife were committed members of Blooming Glen Mennonite Church their entire lives. Bruce served as elder, Sunday School teacher, usher, and other needed service roles. He enjoyed singing in the choir, attending Sunday School classes, and leading special projects in service of the church and staff. A devout believer in Jesus, Bruce was committed to being a strong Christian role model and humble servant, leading by example.

Following the passing of his wife Jody in 2013, Bruce married Phoebe Akinyi Otieno in 2016. Bruce was a supportive and caring husband to Phoebe and father figure to Ezekiel (Zeke), Vanessa, and Flavia. Bruce was a strong source of encouragement to Phoebe as she navigated her training, schooling and early career in healthcare. Likewise, Bruce invested in the lives of Zeke, Vanessa and Flavia offering encouragement and support as they built their respective life foundations.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents Mary Kratz Moyer and Clyde M. Moyer, his first wife Jodelle (Detweiler) Moyer and his granddaughter Selah Moyer. He is survived by his wife Phoebe Akinyi Otieno, daughter Cheramie (Douglas) Lutz of Bedminster, Pennsylvania, son Caleb (Jennie) Moyer of Birmingham, Alabama, and six grandchildren Maggie, Molly, Sutton, Josie, Hannah, and Makayla. Bruce is also survived by Phoebe’s children Flavia, Ezekiel and Vanessa. Bruce left a lasting legacy of love and faith.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 9, at 11:00 am at Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, 713 Blooming Glen Road, Blooming Glen, Pennsylvania 18944, followed by a light luncheon at 12pm.
