Richard James Herbein, 84, formerly of Telford, PA, passed away Monday night, April 17, 2023, while surrounded by his family at his residence at Dock Woods Community in Towamencin Township, PA. He and his wife, Paula Ellen (Colvin) Herbein, celebrated their 60 ^th wedding anniversary on March 16 ^th .

Born August 13, 1938, in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late James Squibb Herbein and Helen (Millard) Herbein. He was a 1960 graduate of Penn State University and earned his master's degree from West Chester State College. A United States Navy veteran, he served in the military from 1961 until 1984.

Mr. Herbein was a middle school guidance counselor in the Wissahickon School District for many years, retiring in June of 1997. He was an active member of Little Zion Lutheran Church in Telford, PA, where he sang in the choir and was a member of the property committee. He enjoyed mowing the back 40, traveling the world, socializing on the front porch, an occasional Yuengling and cheering for his favorite teams, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Penn State Nittany Lions.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Richard James Herbein, Jr. and his wife, Kelly, of Spring, TX, and Scott David Herbein and his wife, Nicole, of Lansdale, PA; and a daughter, Tara A. Holman and her husband, Daniel, of Schwenksville, PA. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jaclynn, Turner, Ella, Andrew, and Brady. He was preceded in death by a sister, Loretta Miller.

The family will receive friends from 10-10:45 am on Monday, April 24, 2023, at Little Zion Lutheran Church, 267 Morwood Road, Telford, PA 18969, with the public memorial service beginning at 11 am at the church.
