Obituary

Regina Wambold Alderfer, age 94, of Harleysville, passed away on Monday, January 30, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Robert R. "Benny" Alderfer, for nearly 65 years. Born March 9, 1928, in Mainland, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer G. and Leanna (Freed) Wambold. Regina graduated from Souderton High School, Class of 46.  Mrs. Alderfer was a dedicated employee of the Harleysville Savings Bank for 34 years. She served as a Corporate Secretary and was the face of home mortgages to many Harleysville residents through the years.

Regina and Benny enjoyed serving their community and church.  She was a lifelong member of Christ Covenant Church congregation volunteering as deacon, as children's superintendent, on women's groups and on the visitation committee.   She was a leader in Harleysville Community Center Ladies Auxiliary, Peter Becker Ladies Auxiliary, and the Harleysville Senior Center Board of Directors.  Regina worked with other women leaders to start the Harleysville girls' softball league.  Regina and Benny were honored with the Harleysville Senior Center's inaugural Pillar of the Community Award in 2005.

Regina and Benny traveled the US with their children and then enjoyed traveling the world with friends.  After retirement, Regina and Benny reveled in being grandparents and spent much time visiting, hosting, and vacationing with their grandchildren.  They volunteered annually for 14 years with their church building houses with Habitat for Humanity and other groups. When Regina and Benny moved into Maplewood Estates, Regina was an avid volunteer with the annual flower show at Peter Becker Community and was a regular at card games several nights a week.  Her smile lit up the campus.

She is survived by her children R. Bradley Alderfer of Manchester, NH, Robin Halpern and her husband Michael of Marmora, NJ, April Pennisi and her husband Gene of Raleigh NC; grandchildren Joseph Halpern and his wife Molly, Jason Halpern and his wife Wendi, Justin Halpern and his wife Sarah, Kevin Alderfer and his wife Jill, Shannon Hokula and her husband Teddy, Maggie Francis and her husband Casey, and Jacob Pennisi; 10 great grandchildren: Noah, Emmy, Luke, Fin, Lucy, Maddie, Taz, Iggy, Kai and Logan, and brother Harold Wambold.  She was preceded in death by her infant brother Claude Luther Wambold.

The family will greet guests on Friday, February 10, 2023, from 6PM to 8PM in the Arbor Conference Center, at Peter Becker Community's Maplewood Estates, 815 Maplewood Drive, Harleysville. On Saturday February 11, at Christ Covenant Church, 2200 Mainland Road, Harleysville, the family will again greet friends from 10:30 – 11:30 AM.  The memorial services will begin at 11:30 AM. Burial will be private.
