Naomi (Knechel) Bergey, 84, formerly of Souderton, PA, passed away early Saturday morning, October 15, 2022, at Peter Becker Community in Harleysville, PA. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry M. Bergey, on July 10, 2010. They had been married for 25 years at the time of his passing.
Born May 22, 1938, in Telford, PA, she was a daughter of the late Leidy and Mary (Kratz) Knechel.
Mrs. Bergey was a member of Zion Mennonite Church in Souderton, PA where she played in the bell choir. She played chimes at Generations of Indian Valley and local nursing homes. Since becoming a member of Peter Becker Community, she began and enjoyed drama classes. The group she belonged to performed for fellow residents and was known as "Act Your Age."
Surviving is a daughter, Amy Haydu and her husband, Gary, of Doylestown, PA; and three stepchildren, Keith Bergey and his wife, Liz, of Quakertown, PA, Deborah Workman and her husband, Timothy, of Port Washington, NY, and Denise Marinelli of Bethlehem, PA; seven beloved grandchildren, Corey Haydu, Stephanie Gerhart and her husband Jason, Samuel Bergey and his wife Kate, Chloe Workman, Parker Workman, Kayla Marinelli, and Ty Marinelli; and two great grandchildren, Colby and Cooper Gerhart. She is also survived by her brother, Ed Knechel and his wife, Arlene, of Harleysville, PA.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Leidy Knechel, Jr., Robert Knechel, Beatrice Haney, Anna Swartz, and Darlene Ponzio.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her memorial service at 1 pm on Friday, December 30, 2022, at Peter Becker Community Chapel, 800 Maple Avenue, Harleysville, PA 19438, where the family will receive friends following the service. A private graveside service was held at St. Peter's Union Cemetery in Hilltown, PA. Arrangements are by Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home in Franconia, PA.
