Obituary

Monroe J. Miller, 90, formerly of Goodville, PA, and Harleysville, PA, passed away Saturday evening, October 28, 2023, at Ephrata Manor in Lancaster County, PA. He was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Bissey (Moyer) Miller, on February 24, 2020.

Born December 27, 1932, in Mount Hope, OH, he was a son of the late Jonas E. and Elizabeth "Lizzie" (Swartzentruber) Miller. He grew up in an Amish family in Holmes County, OH, and served in 1W Service at Delaware State Hospital in New Castle, DE.

Mr. Miller was a machinist, machine builder and restorer of antique automobiles. He had been employed with H.D. Sampey and North American Drager. Later he was self-employed, dealing with local foundries and machine shops in the greater Lancaster area to produce replacement parts for antique automobiles that were otherwise unavailable.

Mr. Miller was a long-time member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, working on restoration of a Model T Ford, Packard, and other cars over the years. He loved history and was a great "arm-chair traveler," with an amazing memory for information about historical places, events, and people. He was a familiar face among regular auction goers.

Surviving are three children, Richard Miller and his wife, Gay (Brunt) Miller, of Souderton, PA, Christine Godshall and her husband, Joel, of Souderton, PA, and James Miller and his wife, Lori (Bashline) Miller, of Harleysville, PA; a brother, Owen J. Miller of Bryan, OH; two sisters, Edna J. Wellert of Biscayne Park, FL, and Martha Dal Pra of Wooster, OH; three brothers-in-law, Harold Moyer of Souderon, PA, David Moyer of Mullinville, KS, and Larry Moyer of Telford, PA; four sisters-in-law, Sarah Fisher of Telford, PA, Joan Moyer of Souderton, PA, Mary Green of Wichita, KS, and Loretta Moyer of Telford, PA; 10 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew J. Miller and Jonas Miller, Jr.; three sisters, Ella Brown, Mary Keim, and Nettie Wengerd; parents-in-law, Clayton and Lizzie Moyer; brothers-in-law, Alvin Keim, Mario Dal Pra, Laverne Moyer, Marvin Moyer, Walter Mininger, Walter Maust, Richard Fisher, Omar Wengerd and Wayne Green; and sisters-in-law, Shirley Miller, Grace Mininger, Lorene Maust, Evelyn Moyer, Gladys Moyer, and Susan Moyer.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11 am on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA, where family will receive friends for the viewing from 10-10:45 am. Burial will follow at Salford Mennonite Church Cemetery in Harleysville, PA.
