Obituary

Miriam W. Souder, age 95, of Telford, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Thursday, March 2, 2023, at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late Lester R. Souder, with whom she shared almost 60 years of marriage.

Born February 1, 1928, in Lederach Pa, she was a daughter of the late Jonathan and Sallie (Weller) Landes.

Miriam was a member of Boyertown Mennonite Church, Upper Skippack Mennonite Church and Grace Mennonite Church in Lansdale. Over the years she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.

All Miriam ever wanted, was to be a mother and housewife. She had lots of practice for that being a second mom to her 15 brothers and sisters. She loved to wash, hang it outside and then iron. Her home was frequently filled with company, laughter, and food. Even to the very end she wanted to make sure there was enough snacks and drinks for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren! She loved playing Parcheesi, Rook, Skip-Bo and Chicken Foot. Miriam was employed by Landis Supermarket where she worked in the produce department. She enjoyed shelling peas, beans, limas, etc. and husking corn. She also loved to go out to eat. Next to her Lord her family was her everything!

Miriam saw much heartache and pain in her 95 years, but her faith carried her through!

She is survived by her 6 daughters, Eileen Landis of Telford, Melodia Ann Alderfer (Jacob) of Harleysville, Hannah Hunter of Schwenksville, Elizabeth Kolb (Phil) of Telford, Rebecca Essick (Jay) of Pottstown, and Cheryl Renee Rittenhouse (Dave) of Harleysville; one son, Clair (Jen) Souder of Telford; 18 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by 7 sisters, Irene Hunsberger, Elizabeth Landes, Doris Hunsberger, Edith Landes, Ethel Pennington (Blake), Paulette Moyer and Rachel Frey (Daniel); and sisters-in-law Pat and Dorothy.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by 8 siblings Robert, Ella, Grace, Sara Anne, Jonathan, Jacob, William and Phillip; and sons-in-law Levi Kolb and John Hunter.
