Obituary

Merrill M. Detweiler, age 90, died Tuesday afternoon, February 28, 2023 at The Lutheran Community of Telford, where he and his wife Suzanne E. Detweiler resided.  Born in West Rockhill Township, Sellersville, Merrill was the son of the late Norman A. and Sallie (Moyer) Detweiler. He was a West Rockhill Township resident all of his life.

Merrill graduated from Millersville University in 1960 & Temple University in 1968, obtaining his Master's degree in Education.  He was a public school teacher in Spring-Ford Area School District, Royersford.

He and Suzanne were members of Church of the Holy Spirit, Harleysville, where they sang in the choir. Merrill was a member of: PSEA, Bucks County Historical Society, Bucks County Audubon Society, West Rockhill Historical Society and Mennonite Historical Society.

In addition to his wife, Merrill is survived by two daughters: Diane Friel (Kerry) of Perkasie and Valerie Detweiler (Chris Cooper) of Key West, Florida; stepson, Robert Sloss (Maria) of Perkasie; stepdaughter, Ellen Sloss Dendler (Michael) of Virginia; two granddaughters, six grandsons, three great-granddaughters, and two sisters: Lorene Derstine and Gladys Nice and husband Curtis. Merrill was preceded in death by two brothers, Russell M. Detweiler and Donald M. Detweiler.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Saturday, March 18, 11:00 at Church of the Holy Spirit, 2871 Barndt Road, Harleysville, PA 19438, where visitation will take place from 10:00-10:45.  Final committal of his cremated remains will follow the service in the church's memorial garden.
