Obituary

Matthew Johnston, age 86, of North Wales, passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024, and now resides in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was the beloved husband of Ethel Elizabeth (Cooke) Johnston, with whom he shared over 60 years of marriage.

Born November 25, 1937, in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Matthew Edward and Mary Ann (Torrens) Johnston.

Matthew was a United States Navy Veteran and worked for Leeds & Northrup in North Wales for 32 years. He was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harleysville where he had many friends and enjoyed worshiping and fellowshipping with them. Matthew enjoyed fixing all kinds of things and traveling. Matthew and Ethel loved RVing in their motor home and visited all 48 contiguous states. His passion was his family, and he cherished the times they spent together.

In addition to his wife Ethel, he is survived by children Karen Johnston Fleisch and her husband Jerry of Naples, FL, Matthew D. Johnston and his wife Bonnie of Chalfont, PA, Stephen Johnston and his wife Lindsay of Fairfield, CT; grandchildren Taylor Copper and her husband Brandon, Lauren Fleisch, Matthew E., Patrick, and Nicholas Johnston, Zachary, Christian and Ashley Johnston, Heather Aicher and her husband Gregg, Danielle Fleisch; great grandchildren Ethan and Austin Aicher, Jayden, Jaxson and Aspen Fleisch; brother Edward Johnston and his wife Ginny. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family here in the Unites States and in Ireland. He was preceded in death by two siblings, Emily (Johnston) McConnell and her husband Robert, and William Johnston.

Services for Matthew will take place at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 310 Covenant Lane, Harleysville, PA 19438, where the family will greet guests from 10:00 – 10:45 AM. Interment will take place after the service in Glenwood Memorial Gardens in Broomall, PA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Matthew's name may be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church's Building Fund for Fellowship Hall at the address above.
