Obituary

Mary Ellen Hoover, 92, of Schwenksville, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 13, 2022, at Peter Becker Community.  She was the wife of the late Daniel A. Hoover.

Born in Schwenksville, she was a daughter of the late Norman and Mary (Landes) Reinford.

Mary Ellen was a loyal, faithful wife for 65 years and mother of 9 children. Daniel and Mary Ellen co-founded Hoover Steel Inc.  She was a mentor to many, quietly generous with her time and resources. She was a good listener and enjoyed leading woman's Bible studies. She was also known for her hospitality, frequently welcoming neighbors, students, and international guests. She loved others by sharing homemade donuts, pies and Christmas cookies with friends and business associates. She was also known for her bar-b-q chicken dinners. In addition to entertaining, she enjoyed reading and is remembered for her smile and sense of humor.

She hosted groups of women from Teen Challenge to freeze corn, make apple sauce and provide an annual Christmas Party with gifts for all.  Mary Ellen and her husband were instrumental in establishing the Daniel Hoover Children's Village in Monrovia, Liberia, and sent over 40 shipping containers of Bibles, rice, clothing and bicycles, during the Liberian civil war.

She is survived by her children, Faith Hoover of Lancaster PA, Phyllis R. Stoltzfus, wife of Freeman, of Denver, CO, Bernice Jacabella, wife of Gary, of Douglassville, PA, Keith R. Hoover, husband of Carol, of Schwenksville, PA, Bryan R. Hoover, husband of Rose, of Schwenksville, PA, Karen R. Hendricks, wife of Todd, of Harleysville, PA, Kevin Daniel Hoover, husband of Rita, of Schwenksville, PA, and Weezer (Louise) Hoover, wife of Dale E. Ashley of Holland, MI.

Mary Ellen has 14 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren: Justin (Jen) Stoltzfus, children Ali and Luca, Laurel (Roy) Prosser, children Tali and Dominic, Olivia (Jake) Edmunds, Angel Jacabella, Ben (Pam) Hoover, children Dietrich and Martin, Jon (Karrie) Hoover, children Zander, Lydia, Tait, Jasper and Boden, Rebecca (Richard) Parry, children Madeleine, Oliver and Arthur, Sara Hoover, Hannah Hoover, Kara Hoover, Austin Hendricks, Kaitlyn (Nathaniel) Freed, children Rowan and Ashton, Tyler Hoover and Travis Hoover.

She is also survived by two brothers, Ernest Reinford of Telford, PA and Floyd Reinford of Souderton, PA.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a daughter, Denise Hoover, brothers Lester, Norman, Clarence and Nelson Reinford and sisters Martha Reinford and Florence Metz.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Peter Becker Community for their loving care of Mary Ellen for the past 6 ½ years.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mary Ellen may be made to the Peter Becker Community Benevolent Fund Campaign, 800 Maple Avenue, Harleysville, PA 19438.

The family will receive friends on Monday, March 21 from 6-8 pm at the Williams- Bergey- Koffel Funeral Home, Inc, 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA 18969. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, March 22 at 7PM at Indian Valley Faith Fellowship, 190 Maple Ave., Harleysville, Pa 19438. Interment will be private.
