Obituary

Marvin K. Rohrs, age 97, of Sellersville (Hilltown Twp.), PA, passed away on Saturday, September 10, 2022. He was the beloved widow of Betty M. Rohrs, who passed away in April 2019, with whom he shared over 67 years of marriage.

He was born and raised in Pekin, Illinois, a small town south of Peoria, and from there he gradually worked his way east - college in Indiana (Purdue University), first job in Ohio, then New Jersey, back to Illinois, and finally settling in Pennsylvania. His education at Purdue was interrupted by service in the Army toward the end of World War II. After discharge, he completed his education as a mechanical engineer and never regretted his choice of profession. While on his first job in Ohio, he met his wife, Betty. They met on a blind date, and it was love at first sight. He had been temporarily staying in Glenwood Landing (Long Island), New York, while construction of a catalytic gas cracking plant for the Long Island Lighting Company was completed, and he was involved with preparing the plant for startup. They were married a year later in 1952. She was the love of his life, and they were married for 67 wonderful years before she passed away.

His engineering career revolved around the design and development of residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC equipment, and the design of custom installations of boilers and pollution control equipment for industry. He was licensed as a Professional Engineer in five states. He held positions ranging from Development Engineer, Project Engineer, Director of Research, Engineering Manager, Chief Engineer, and Director of Engineering. In 1975, he and Betty moved back to Illinois after Marv was offered a position as Vice President of Engineering for a manufacturer of large and small industrial fans. Throughout his career he was granted eight commercial patents.

In 1986, at age 61, fed up with the corporate rat race, they moved to Pennsylvania to be with their two daughters, and he switched to independent consulting. He had made contact with a company that accepted cases from insurance companies and legal firms involving losses that had questionable or contested causes and/or responsibility. Over a time period of 20 years, he accepted about 300 cases in all, completed engineering investigations and analyses of them, and reported on his findings. If a case progressed to trial, he would become qualified as an expert witness and then testify in the appropriate Federal or State Court. It was very interesting and gratifying work, so much so that he delayed his retirement until the age of 81. He is blessed to have two wonderful daughters, four very special grandchildren, and two adorable great grandsons, both of whom are two and a half years old.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Glennon and her husband Mike, and Judy Johnson and her husband Bruce; grandchildren, Kelly Imszennik and her husband Jay, Brian Glennon and his wife Nora, Keith Johnson, and Rachel Hodge and her husband Ryan; and his older sister, Dottie Black who resides in San Diego, California. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. When asked what was most important in life to Marv, his immediate response was his family.

Family and friends are invited to attend his funeral service at 11:00 AM on Monday, September19, 2022, at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1530 Augsburg Drive, Hilltown Township, PA 18927, where the family will greet guests from 10:00 - 11:00 AM. Interment will be private.
