Marjorie R. Swartley, 89, of Souderton, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. She was the beloved wife of Raymond N. Swartley Jr., with whom she shared 71 years of marriage.
Born on November 25, 1936, in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Emma (Cassel) Rohr. Marjorie graduated from Hatfield High School in 1954.
She began her working years as a seamstress at Sunshine Clothing Factory in Souderton. After marrying, she joined her husband in dairy farming while also working a variety of part-time jobs to support her growing family. Her work included positions with Dutchmaid Clothing, Gouldey's Meats, and Jane Bird Catering. She also faithfully volunteered as a bus driver for Plumstead Christian School and served as an area representative for the Fresh Air Program.
A devoted member of Doylestown Mennonite Church, Marjorie served in many roles over the years. After leaving the farming life, she discovered her true passion in real estate, working with Roy Landis Realty and later RE/MAX, where she found great joy in helping families find their homes.
She enjoyed sewing, tending her flower beds, cooking home-cooked meals, especially during the holidays and sharing special moments over a good lobster dinner. She and her husband loved traveling in their motorhome, visiting every U.S. state, and later exploring Europe and Africa. One of Marjorie's fondest memories was owning and riding her beloved Tennessee Walker horse, Duchess.
She had a special place in her heart for children, fostering many over the years and hosting numerous Fresh Air Fund children from New York City, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, Marjorie is survived by her children: Susan McElhaney and her husband William of Quakertown, PA; Sally Landis and her husband John of Pipersville, PA; Phillip Swartley and his wife Anita of Perkasie, PA; Alberto Rodriguez and his wife Grisette of Townsend, DE; and Mark Swartley and his wife Jackie of Greentown, PA. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law Grace Rohr of Lansdale and Carol Swartley of Minnesota.
She was the loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
A private graveside service will be held at Doylestown Mennonite Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, April 11, at Souderton Mennonite Church, (Fellowship Hall), 105 W.
