Obituary

Linford B. Landis, Jr., age 91, of Harleysville, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth H. (Hallman) Landis, with whom he shared over 61 years of marriage.

Born September 12, 1930, in Morwood, PA, he was a son of the late Linford B. Sr. and Katherine (Willouer) Landis.

Linford developed a lifelong work ethic after being sent to work as a farmhand at the age of 13.  He served in the Army in the Korean Conflict where he learned his trade of operating heavy equipment.  He worked for J.H. Freed and was later employed by Haines and Kibblehouse as a backhoe operator.  He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 542.  He retired from H&K after over 25 years of service.

Linford had a gift for carpentry and helped to build his own home where he and Elizabeth raised their family.  He was a talented woodworker and crafted many intricate construction vehicle models.  He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching the Phillies, and flea marketing with his wife.  He drove his antique car, his Wheelhorse lawn tractor, and his 1953 Harley in the Harleysville Parade for many years.

He was fluent in Pennsylvania Dutch and attended many Grundsau Lodge dinners.  He enjoyed crossword puzzles, Tetris, and later in life discovered YouTube where he watched videos about homesteading and farming.

In addition to his wife Elizabeth, he is survived by his children Penny Yoder and her husband Rodney, Judy Bartholomew and her husband David, and Wendy Romanik and her husband John; grandchildren Shawn Natali and her husband Josh, Angela Sweeney and her husband Austin, Michael Bartholomew, and Jacob and Molly Romanik; and great grandchildren Caitlyn and Caleb Natali, Cecilia Bartholomew and Sadie Sweeney.

Services for Linford will be private.
