Obituary

Lester Souder Gehman age 91, peacefully went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at Traditions at Reagan Park, Avon IN with his son Drew and daughter-in-law Wendy at his side. Lester was born in Sellersville, PA the son of the late Abraham and Hannah Gehman, and the husband of the late Mary Jean to whom he had been married for 57 years at the time of her death, July 27, 2009.

Previously of Perkasie and then the Lutheran Community at Telford, he moved to Plainfield IN in August 2023 to live with his son Drew and wife Wendy.  Lester spent his time doing puzzles, catching up on Souderton local news and watching countless YouTube videos on traveling.  He took pride in his "job" of feeding the many birds that congregated in their backyard.  He also loved sitting out on the back porch, basking in the sun, and playing with the family dog Millie.

Lester worked with his brother Earl at North Penn Oil and Tire Company (Perkasie, PA) and Melody Lakes Auto Care (Quakertown, PA) through the 1960s. He drove truck throughout the Northeast for North Penn Transfer and other area firms from the 1970s until retirement.  He loved driving his trucks and always told his kids he was a "professional driver" when we would question his ability to be driving.

Lester was a member of Calvary Church of Souderton.  When he was unable to attend physically, he always watched on YouTube.

Lester is survived by his four children: Jay and his wife Lyn of St. Petersburg FL, Gwen Nyce and husband Merrill of Quakertown PA, Dana and wife Toni of Marysville OH and Drew and wife Wendy of Plainfield IN.  Seven grandsons: Andrew, Jonathan, Jeffrey, Austin, Christian, Isaac and Sam. Six great-grandchildren: Emily, Garrett, Mason, Collin, Abby and Nolan. Also many nieces and nephews,  and his four-legged "nurse Millie" whom he loved.

He was preceded in death by parents Abraham and Hannah (Souder) Gehman, wife Mary Jean (Bergey) Gehman,  and siblings Eva Landes (Mark), Edna Bergey (Les), and Earl Gehman (Esther).

The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice and Traditions at Reagan Park staff for their professionalism and kindness.  Thanks also to Tara and her colleagues at Apricity for providing numerous hours of companionship and care over the past year.

Graveside services for family and friends will be arranged at a future date.
