Our wonderful son and brother, Kevin Sloan passed away from a brain tumor that he had endured for eight years. He never complained even though, on many occasions, he was enduring vertigo and could barely stand or walk. He had many headaches and many auras or focal seizures that made living on his own impossible towards the end. But, the only part of that experience that should define him is the courage he used to never give up and never complain.
Kevin continued to live life passionately. He loved music and our memories of him will always start with violin. Music was an essential part of him. He also loved to create masterpieces in food. He always experimented with winemaking, beer making, breadmaking, hot sauces, and any new food creation that he dreamed up. This delighted all who knew him as he shared his creations freely.
Another big part of him was his caring for others. He was shy and quiet but had a huge heart. One of the most important things in his life was being a counselor at Camp No Worries, based in Moorestown, NJ. That camp allows children living with cancer, and their siblings, a chance to have a week away at camp. It is a place for them to be free of their cancer diagnosis and remember that first and foremost they are kids with the right to be free and laugh and have fun and not have to worry about the cancer that has surrounded the rest of their lives.
Please, if you would like to honor Kevin's memory, in place of flowers, please donate to Camp No Worries at this link: campnoworries.org/donate. If you would feel more comfortable sending a check to them the mailing address is: Camp No Worries, P.O. Box 810, Moorestown, NJ 08057.
Tom, Sue, Leah, and David will forever miss their son and brother but we are so glad that we had him in our lives for as long as we did and appreciate all the many friends and family that have been here to share their experiences, prayers, and thoughts for Kevin.
We will be having a "Celebration of Life" ceremony for Kevin in late May or early June. Arrangements are still pending.
