Kent Edwin Christy, age 78, of Telford, PA, died Jan. 23, 2025 at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia. He was the husband of Alexis (Kurkewicz) Christy.
Born in Lansdale, PA, he was the son of the late Edwin and Agnes (Schuster) Christy. Kent graduated from North Penn High School, Class of 1964. He worked locally as a sales representative in the Auto Parts Industry and loved helping customers get what they needed.
Kent lost one eye as a toddler and then became totally blind in 2013. He always wanted to "do it himself," to help others and to make people laugh. Kent authored a book titled "Journey into Blindness", in 2017. It's an inspirational story of overcoming trauma and regaining a valuable life.
Kent participated in Souderton's "So you think you can cook" event in 2019 and in 2020, where he was one of 23 amateur chefs. Though blind, he replaced the kitchen faucet all by feel.
He walked a mile along the creek in Lenape Park and danced at Musikfest. He practiced Tai Chi to maintain strength and balance. He attempted to clear snow from the driveway and walks. He was loved and admired by many, for his courage, determination and humor.
In addition to his wife Alexis, he is survived by a daughter: Hope Elizabeth Watkins, two grandsons: Austin Watkins and Gavin Watkins. He was preceded in death by two brothers: William Christy "Billy" and Charles Christy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service Friday, Feb. 21 at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, 667 Harleysville Pike (Rt. 113), Telford. Visitation from 10-11:00 AM will precede the service. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made in Kent's name to Keystone Opportunity Center, 104 N. Main St., Souderton, PA 18964.
