Joseph Scipione, Sr., age 89, passed away on September 12, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Anne (Rissi) Scipione, with whom he shared over 64 years of marriage.

Born March 19, 1934, in Bisenti, Italy, province of Teramo, he was a son of the late Domenico and Antoniella (Saputelli) Scipione.

Joseph came to America almost 70 years ago and because of his tireless work ethic he learned a new language, started a successful cement contracting business, and built a dream home for his family.  He had the ability to fix anything that was broken and was skilled at woodworking and wine-making.  Everyone who met him remarked on his kindness and humility.  He was happiest when he was with his family and he also loved watching a good Phillies game and playing bocce.

In addition to his wife Anne, Joseph is survived by his children Martina Scipione, Melinda Bell and her husband Wesley; grandchildren Madeleine Singer and her husband Cassen and Dominic Bell; siblings Evelina, Cristina, Rita and Gabe. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his son Joseph Scipione, Jr., and siblings Antonio, Gaetano, Lucy, Conchetta and Delfino.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA 19440, where the family will greet guests from 10:00 – 10:45 AM. Interment will take place in St. John Neumann Cemetery.
