Obituary

Joseph William O'Brien, Jr., age 73, of Royersford, passed away in his home on Monday, February 2, 2026, surrounded by love. He was a devoted father, a proud Pop Pop, a brother, and the loving partner of Julia K. Benner.

Born on November 6, 1952, in Philadelphia, Joseph was the son of the late Joseph William O'Brien, Sr. and Etta Rachel (Lattanzio) O'Brien. One of ten children, Joe grew up in a big family where showing up for one another mattered—and he carried that lesson with him throughout his life.

Joe was a master carpenter by trade who turned his master carpentry skills and ability to lead into a successful contracting business. Joe worked side by side with his son and enjoyed teaching his grandsons what he loved to do. He was the one who checked in with a phone call, shared a well-timed joke, or simply showed up when he was needed. He helped without being asked and never looked for recognition. His presence was reliable and comforting, and you always knew he was there for you.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life—time on the golf course, fishing by the water, and being outdoors—but nothing brought him more pride or joy than his family. Being a father and "Pop Pop" was the role he cherished most. His grandchildren knew him as someone who listened, laughed with them, showed up for their sporting events, and made them feel deeply loved.

He is survived by his children Joseph William O'Brien III, Kimberly Anne O'Brien (Kevin Casanova), Lisa Marie Nevarez (Francisco), their mother, Joan Caruso O'Brien; and his youngest daughter Genevieve Marie O'Brien (Anthony Proietto); his beloved grandchildren Joseph William O'Brien IV (Trinh), Alexandria Victoria Coates, Michael Mac O'Brien (Lauryn Fahey), Shannon Brae O'Brien, Emma Rose Potser, Jon Joseph O'Brien, and Sophia Lucille Potser. He is also survived by many siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will miss him deeply.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA, where the family will greet guests from 10:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions in Joe's name be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital which was dear to his heart.

Joe will be remembered for his quiet strength, his sense of humor, and the many small ways he showed love every day. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
