John E. Townsend, 93, of Harleysville, died on Thursday, April 13, 2023. He was the husband of the late Marion (Fiedler) Townsend.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Harry Townsend and Ottilia Emmons. He was a graduate of Girard College, class of 1947.
Jack served in the Unites States Army during the Korean War.
He worked as a typesetter for John C. Meyer and Son and Towers Perrin.
Jack enjoyed gardening, reading non-fiction books, listening to music, learning to play the organ, swimming, model railroading, telling jokes and collecting postal marks. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Labus and her husband, Richard, of Harleysville; son, Gary Townsend and his wife, Joan, of Portland, OR; nine grandchildren, Lynne, Stephen, John, Meghan, Patrick, Timothy, Stephanie, Lisa and Bryan; and six great-grandchildren, Emily, Madelyn, Charlie, Cora, Olivia and Emma.
A graveside service will be held privately at Whitemarsh Memorial Park.
