Obituary

John D. Moyer, 82, a resident of Souderton, PA, formerly of Green Lane, PA, passed away early Friday morning, February 17, 2023, after an illness. He and his wife, Janet (Mawhinney) Moyer, would have celebrated their 60 th wedding anniversary on November 28 th of this year.

Born January 27, 1941, in Souderton, PA, he was a son of the late Nelson D. and Evelyn (Derstine) Moyer. He was a 1958 graduate of Souderton High School.

Mr. Moyer earned his Bachelor of Music from Philadelphia Musical Academy in 1962. At the University of Pennsylvania, he was in the Master of Arts program, serving as a graduate assistant in Musicology, and was assistant music librarian and assistant music cataloger. He then served as head librarian back at Philadelphia Musical Academy from 1967-1976. He earned his Master of Science in 1969 from Drexel Institute of Technology.

Mr. Moyer began his career at Moyer & Son, Inc. of Souderton, PA in 1976. He has served as the company's president since 1980. He was a long-time active member of Souderton-Telford Rotary Club, serving as president during the 1999-2000 Rotary year and as a board member since 1995, and was recognized as a Multiple Paul Harris Fellow. John was active with the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce and was a member of Commercial Club at Port Indian. He was an accomplished pianist and enjoyed supporting and being an active part of his community.

Other professional organizations and societies that he was involved with include chairing the Friends of Music School Committee at Germantown Friends School; sponsoring, as president of Moyer & Son, Inc., three large exhibitions at the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown, PA; and as a patron, both individually and representing Moyer & Son, Inc., of many, if not all, art-related events in the North Penn and Indian Valley regions of Montgomery County, PA. Mr. Moyer was a member of the Montgomery County Open Space Task Force, and has served on the Montgomery County Open Space Board since 1994. He served on the board and as chairman of PennAg Industries Insurance Trust, and as a board member of PennAg Industries Association. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture since 1997, and a member of the Montgomery County Transportation Management Association since 1996, serving on the executive board since 1997.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David Moyer and his wife, Amanda, and their children, Avery and Blake, of Wyndmoor, PA, and Christopher Moyer of Sellersville, PA. He is also survived by a brother, Robert D. Moyer and his wife, Kathy, of Ottsville, PA; and a sister, Karen Weaver and her husband, Larry, of Chalfont, PA.

Family will receive friends from 11 am until 1 pm on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc., 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford (Franconia Twp.,) PA.
