Obituary

John C. Martin, Sr., 84, of Harleysville, passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2023.  He was the husband of Mary (Bisbing) Martin, with whom he shared 58 years of marriage.

Born on November 9, 1939 in Norristown, PA he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (McLean) Martin.

John received his bachelor's degree from West Chester University in 1961 and his master's degree from Temple University in 1965.  John worked as a Science teacher at Rittenhouse Jr. High School for 1 year.  He then went to work at Plymouth Whitemarsh High School where he taught AP European History and World Cultures for 35 years.

John coached Wrestling at PW for many years and was a wrestler himself at West Chester University.  He was a member of the NEA, PSEA and CEA.  He was Teacher of the Year and was a Who's Who of American Teachers.

John loved the beach and spent many summers in Asbury Park where he worked and spent time with his family.  He also enjoyed traveling and spent many vacations traveling to Europe, St Martin and endless weeks in Mexico with his wife, Mary, children and his friends.

John is survived by his wife, Mary Martin and his children, Mary Newbegin and her husband Richard and their sons, Alexander and William; Audra Havrilla and husband Brian and their daughters Hannah and Sophia and his son, John Jr.  He is also survived by his two brothers Robert Martin and Paul Martin.

A visitation with family will be held at 2:00pm on Sunday, November 19 at Central Schwenkfelder Church, 2111 Valley Forge Road, Lansdale, PA 19446.  A funeral service will be held right after at 3:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA
