Obituary

John "Jack" Lyne McAfee, born January 9th, 1928 to Emma Lyne McAfee and Jim S. McAfee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, left this world peacefully in the early morning hours of October 18th, 2025.

Jack was the youngest of three siblings — Jim Jr. and Jane — both previously departed. Jane passing first after contracting the Polio Virus, at the age of 22 in the year 1949, shortly after beginning her career as a teacher. Jim Jr. would pass in the the year 2002 after serving as the family dentist and Jacks life long ski partner. The family of five were regular attendees of the Grace Baptist Temple in Philadelphia. The fondest years of Jacks youth were spent at Temple Camp along the Perkiomen Creek in Collegeville Pennsylvania, where he developed a life long love for being in and on the water.

After finishing his grade school education at Germantown High School, Jack was drafted into the United States Army where he served as a Radio Operator, translating morse code. Following the winding down of WWII and an Honorable Discharge from the army, Jack would attend college starting at Ursinus College and earning his degree in Animal Husbandry from Penn State University. From there, he would go on to have a long and successful career at Merck in the toxicology department, forming a chosen family of life long friends along the way.

On December 3rd, 1955 Jack would marry Jean Elizabeth Hansford, with whom he had two daughters - Donna and Bonnie. Jack treasured time spent with his family and friends. He enjoyed an active life style with many hobbies most memorably golfing, skiing, and sailing. He lived life with a great curiosity for many subjects and acted as a teacher and mentor to the next generations. A sense of humility and humor, along with a strong set of values to care for all things great and small, were the backbone that formed his identity.

Jack enjoyed 97 healthy years on this planet. He is survived by daughters Donna Stoneback and Bonnie McAfee as well as his granddaughter Raelyn McAfee.
