John Marino Guarino, of Collegeville, Pennsylvania, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022 at Grand View Hospital, just one month shy of his 94th birthday. After several weeks of declining health, John died peacefully with family by his side.
John was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts on August 15, 1928. H e was a son of the late John B and Josephine (Vasta) Guarino. He was the second youngest of 9 children and loved growing up in Boston. He was a great athlete and loved all sports but especially football and hockey. He played hockey whenever he could as a child. John enlisted in the Air Force at age 22, and was stationed overseas. John served during the Korean War from 1950-1954, and was a recognized United States Air Force Staff Sergeant.
He returned home to help his family and moved to South Florida to build a home for his parents. On the beaches of Miami is where he met the love of his life, the late Margaret G (Delaney) Guarino. Their love story began in 1966 and lasted for over 50 years. He was a very loyal and loving husband/father and a dedicated and successful businessman. John and Margaret raised their family of 4 in Florida. His love of sports was passed down to his children who were both collegiate athletes in soccer and in track and field. After living in Florida for 40 years, later in his life, he moved both him and his wife up to Pennsylvania to be closer to family and to take care of his ill wife Margaret. John's daily care for his wife was so remarkable and showed how much he loved her and how loyal he was to her, up until the very end of her life. To this day many of the people he met while caring for his wife, still talk about how his love for Margaret was so admirable. Even years later, he is remembered by that.
John is survived by his children John V. Guarino and his wife Natasha, Mary K. Guarino and her wife Allison; eight grandchildren Reese, Declan, Stella, Liam, Rowan, John Davis, Michael and Charlene. He was preceded in death by his 8 siblings.
A funeral mass will take place at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 29, 2022, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA. The family will greet guests from 9:30 – 10:30 AM. A military burial will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery in Washington Crossing, PA.
