John F. Dorner, 82, a resident of Franconia Township, PA for over 20 years, passed away Tuesday morning, December 31, 2024, at Community at Rockhill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra P. (Cullaro) Dorner, who passed away May 2, 2021. They had been married for 52 years at the time of her passing.
Born March 13, 1942, in Trenton, NJ, he was a son of the late John R. and Mary R. (Meehan) Dorner. He was a graduate of Trenton Catholic High School and earned his bachelor's degree in education from Mount Saint Mary's College in Emmitsburg, MD. He then graduated from The School of Saint Philip Neri in Boston, MA.
Mr. Dorner was a math teacher for Hamilton Township public schools and Notre Dame High School from 1968 until 1975. He was then employed with the New Jersey Department of Transportation Chemistry Laboratory for 20 years.
Following retirement, he and his wife enjoyed traveling and visited 48 of the 50 states in the country. A country music fan, he enjoyed listening to Willie Nelson and George Strait. He was also a movie buff and fan of Tom Hanks movies, especially Forrest Gump. Other hobbies included gardening, birdwatching, and watching the Phillies and Eagles.
Surviving are two daughters, Christina Dorner and her husband, Kevin, of Sellersville, PA, and Theresa Dorner-Kolich and her husband, Bill, of Schwenksville, PA; and three grandchildren, Josh, Jacob and Sarah Thayres. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary St. Pierre of Huntington, MD, and Betsy Solan and her husband, Pat, of Robbinsville, NJ; and two brothers, Tom Dorner and his wife, Tina, of Hamilton, NJ, and Joe Dorner of Hamilton, NJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at 11 am on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA, where family will receive friends from 10-10:45 am. A funeral luncheon will follow but interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Arbor Day Foundation at www.arborday.org to have trees planted in the Great Smokey Mountains where they will be laid to rest, or to HEADstrong Foundation (Nick's House), 1330 MacDade Blvd. #2, Woodlyn, PA 19094. Funeral arrangements are by the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc. of Franconia Township, PA.
