Arthur James Hunsberger, 83, of Souderton, PA went home to be with his Lord on Thursday evening, June 23, 2022, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.
He was the loving husband of Mary E. Hunsberger for almost 61 years. Born in Sellersville, PA he was the son of the late William and Florence Hunsberger. Jim graduated from Souderton Area High School, class of 1956.
He joined the United States Army shortly after high school and honorably served for 8 years. He received a Good Conduct Medal 2-d Award, Rifle Expert Award, Army Commendation Medal, Expert Driver Award, and National Defense Service Medal. During this time, Jim married his sweetheart Mary, and they started their family together. Their first daughter Michele was born while he was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas and Monica was born while he was stationed in Stuttgart, Germany.
After returning to the Souderton area, Jim started a career at North Penn Transfer, a trucking company in Lansdale, PA. Using skills he had learned in the Army, he quickly became an important asset to the company as a computer programmer that involved networking eleven trucking terminals located from New England down to Baltimore. Prior to the company ceasing operations, Jim followed his passion in finance and went to work for North Penn Federal Credit Union which had been formed by a group of employees of North Penn Transfer. He worked there as the CEO and grew the company into what it is today.
Jim lived a well-adjusted life and seemed to do everything thoroughly. You would often see him in a suit and tie if attending church or a business meeting, but he was just as comfortable in his swimsuit and flip-flops. Jim was also a skilled handyman around the house. His home and yard were always neat and tidy, and his cars had to be clean and pristine. His girls were often asked to help clean his white-walls (25 cents a wheel) and detail his cars. He had a quiet, understated, sense of humor which brought much laughter into his home.
Jim was a loving, loyal, kind, and compassionate husband to Mary and an amazing father to daughters Michele and Monica. When his grandsons came along, he doted on them. "Pop" loved taking them along on family vacations to Aruba, Sarasota, Lancaster, and work-related weekend trips. He also enjoyed taking his grandsons on golf outings, swimming in the family pool, talking about cars, sharing time at amusement parks, and making the annual Christmas cut-out cookies.
Some of Jim's passions included golfing, camping, travel that always included close church friends or extended family, snowmobiling, motorcycling, family vacations, large group tours, singing in the church choir, singing bass in the Faithman Quartet, attending Southern Gospel concerts, and singing hymns. Jim was a lifelong member of Faith Baptist Church of Sellersville, PA.
Jim is survived by his wife Mary, two daughters, Michele Gallagher of Sarasota, FL and Monica Reinford and her husband Philip of Telford, PA, four grandsons, Seth Gallagher and his wife Nicole of Astoria, NY, Chase Reinford and fiancé Kaelyn Fonseca of Helena, MT, Kyle Reinford of Telford, PA, and Shane Gallagher and his wife Dané, of Nokomis, FL and great grandson, Brantley of Nokomis, FL. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Reinford and Dorothy Harris.
In addition to his parents William and Florence, he was preceded in death by two brothers William and Robert Hunsberger, three sisters, Florence Landes, Catherine Derstine, and Ruth Derstine, and his son-in-law, Dr. Joseph Gallagher.
