James "Jim" N. Pifer, Jr., 82, a resident of Souderton, PA, for over 57 years, passed away Monday morning, June 12, 2023, at Jefferson Lansdale Hospital, after an illness. He and his wife, Arlene F. (Schreiner) Pifer, celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on March 19th of this year.
Born April 14, 1941, in Marlinton, WV, he was the son of the late James N. and Mary (Whitt) Pifer. He was a 1959 graduate of Marlinton High School. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving as a paratrooper and Army Ranger.
Jim was a truck driver and was employed with Roadway for over 35 years. He was a member of the Warren Royer Post #234 of the American Legion of Souderton, PA. Jim was an active part of Souderton Area Baseball League (SABL) where he served as a board member for ten years and coached many teams over the years. He also served as maintenance director and took care of many of the behind-the-scenes projects for the organization for a couple of decades.
Jim was passionate about all professional Philadelphia sports teams, especially the Phillies. He shared that love of baseball with his family that in part led the Pifer family to run the administration of the baseball and softball programs of SABL for decades. Jim also loved following West Virginia college sports, especially the Mountaineers, and watched the basketball and football games religiously. He was a hard-working, generous man who enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities and sporting events.
Jim ran numerous lottery pools at Roadway Express where he made friends for life. In the last decade leading up to his health decline last year, people would regularly see him at his grandkids' events, mowing the lawn, Wawa, North Penn Beverage for lottery tickets or at R&S Diner for dinner with Arlene. He was known for his kindness and generosity throughout the community and was a friend to all.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Brian K. Pifer of Souderton, PA; six grandchildren, Jimmy, Stephanie, Brooke (Jimmy's kids), Cole, Jack, and Lily (Brian's kids); and two great grandchildren, Delilah and Scarlet (Brooke's kids).
