J. Walter Keeler, age 81, of Silverdale, met Jesus on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at 11:30 PM. He was the beloved husband of Mary Margaret (Toth) Keeler, with whom he shared over 61 years of marriage.
Born February 4, 1943, in Sellersville, he was a son of the late Milton C. and Lydia (Leatherman) Keeler.
Walter graduated from Pennridge High School in 1961. Later that year, he attended a Billy Graham Crusade where he met a woman named Mary, who became the love of his life. They were married in September of 1962.
He retired from Delbar Products after 42 years as a press operator. He also worked part time as a sign painter with his father and brother, Dan.
Early in his life, he taught Bible School and Sunday School at Haycock Mennonite Church. He enjoyed teaching the Bible and served as a youth Sunday School teacher and Elder at Perkiomenville and Rockhill Mennonite churches. He was a gifted teacher in the Book of Revelation.
In his later years, he became a member of Line Lexington Mennonite Church and served on the committee for Biker Sunday where he led many rides without a need for electronics as his mind as his GPS. He taught Wednesday night Bible study and served as an Elder.
Walter was an avid bird watcher and made many trips to the shore and Hawk Mountain. He was also an artist and performed "chalk talks" in many area churches. He enjoyed calligraphy and used his talent in many family Bibles and marriage certificates.
Walter had a passion for motorcycling traveling to all 49 states including two trips to Alaska with Jesus as his co-pilot. In 1990 he and his wife took a month-long trip to California.
After retirement, he enjoyed weekly rides with his four buddies, always prepared to follow him on a ride that promised to "never return the same way they left".
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by his daughter, Valerie Keeler (Darren Garrett) of Silverdale; son, Dennis Keeler and his wife, Megan, of Virginia; grandchildren, Blake Keeler, Paige Collins and her husband Shane, Ben and Justin Keeler; great-grandchildren, Colton and Emma; and siblings Mary Moyer and her husband Tim and Paul Keeler and his wife Rachel. He was also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his brothers Harold, John Merrill and Daniel Keeler.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at Line Lexington Mennonite church, 80 Hilltown Pike, Line Lexington, PA 18932, where the family will greet guests from 9:30-10:45 AM. Interment will take place in the adjoining church cemetery.
