Hugh C. Donnelly

Hugh C. Donnelly, 89, died at home peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, August 28th, 2006. He was the beloved husband of the late Bernadette (Nagel) Donnelly. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose life was rooted in faith, family, honesty, hard work, and a genuine love of life.

Hugh lived a full and accomplished life. In his early years, he proudly served in the United States Army Reserve as a Sergeant, where he worked with small groups on firearms and mentored junior enlisted members.

His professional life was marked by determination, innovation, and success. During his career, Hugh pioneered the introduction of the first computers for Union National Bank. He went on to enjoy a successful career as a District Sales Manager, earning numerous awards and recognition for his accomplishments. He later became the owner of Readiset Business Forms, which he operated for several years.

Hugh strongly believed in giving back to his community. His volunteer work with the Lions Club and at election polls, and his service to St. Maria Goretti Church were important parts of his life. He gave generously of his time and talents and formed many lasting friendships along the way.

Outside of work and service, Hugh enjoyed the things that made life meaningful to him. Among his favorite pastimes were fishing, hunting, and time at the shore. He had an enormous appetite for life and knew how to enjoy a good story, a good laugh, and the company of family and friends. He had a unique ability to make people laugh and feel welcome. To his family and friends, Hugh was simply—one of a kind and truly irreplaceable.

Hugh was a loving and devoted father to Bernadette “Bunny” Sagl, Kathleen and Jeffrey Carney, Elizabeth and Yaman Coskun, and Hugh and Jennifer Donnelly; brother of Joseph Donnelly, and Eileen Roach; grandfather of Mary Taddeo (Mike), Rich Sagl (Rebecca), Joseph Sagl, John Sagl (Jackie), Patrick Carney, Daniel Carney (Julia), Marykate Carney, Cybelle Coskun, Liam Coskun, and Sean Donnelly; and great-grandfather to Ben, Jack, and Adelyn.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his brother, Bernerd Donnelly.

We celebrate Hugh for the life he lived, the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created. His spirit and legacy will remain forever in the hearts of those who love him.
