Obituary

H. Edwin "Ed" Castor, 91, of Lansdale, completed his Earthly pilgrimage on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, and is now in the presence of his Lord. He was the beloved husband of Ethel (Peters) Castor, who preceded him in death on March 9th of this year, and with whom he shared 71 years of marriage.

Born on January 12, 1932, in Fox Chase, he was the son of Edwin H. and Eleanor (Walker) Castor.  He was the youngest of seven siblings, and the only boy. Growing up with six older sisters could be challenging, but Ed (or "Teddy", as he was called in childhood) developed a very independent nature and followed his own pursuits.

At the age of eighteen, Ed enlisted in the Naval Air Reserves and served four years. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Spring Garden College in Philadelphia, where he also became an instructor, and later Business Management at Delaware Valley College.

Ed and Ethel began their life together in Philadelphia, then moved to a small home in Warminster, Bucks County. In 1962, they purchased three acres of property in New Britain Township where they built a home overlooking beautiful Peace Valley, which in time became Peace Valley Park and Lake Galena; a wonderful place to raise a family. They lived there forty-two years and made many happy memories! In 2004, they moved to Dock Woods Community where they spent their remaining nineteen years.

Most of Ed's career was in the field of sheet metal fabrication; in engineering, management, and instruction. Some of the companies he worked for were Hale Fire Pump, F.J.Stokes, Pennwalt, Aydin Corporation and National Drying Machine Company, retiring in 1992.

In 1993, the Aydin Corporation hired Ed to establish a division in Turkey for the manufacture of mobile radar units for the Turkish Air Force. Ed and Ethel lived in Turkey for four years where they traveled and enjoyed many rich and wonderful experiences. Ed returned to Turkey in 1999 to help with the earthquake relief efforts.

Throughout his life, Ed was a faithful follower of Christ and was a member of Davisville Baptist Church, Hilltown Baptist Church, First Baptist Church, Doylestown, and Covenant Presbyterian Church in Harleysville. At each church, he served in numerous leadership positions and participated in several mission trips.

Ed was a beekeeper for forty years, and enjoyed sharing his "Peace Valley Apiary" honey. Other pursuits were hunting, woodworking, hiking and gardening.  He was very skilled in all things involving mechanics, handiwork, and helping others wherever needed.

He is survived by his children Jeffrey Castor (Cindy), Cathy Nagy (James), Fr. Timothy Castor, and Richard Castor (Catherine).  He was preceded in death by his firstborn infant, Linda Ellen. He was the most beloved "Poppy" to eight grandchildren; Abigael, Meredith, Julia, Olivia, Joel, Andrew, Emily, and Sara.

A memorial service for Ed will be held on Friday, November 17, at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 310 Covenant Lane, Harleysville, 19438, where the family will receive friends at 10:00 am, with a service to follow at 11:00.

Interment will be private in Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge.
