Grace Ritter (Alderfer) Landis, age 93, of Harleysville, died March 24, 2022 at Peter Becker Community in Harleysville. She was the wife of Henry L. Landis who preceded her in death in February 2013.

Born on Maple Avenue in Harleysville, she was the daughter of Robert and Hilda Alderfer. As a young lady, Grace aspired to become a nurse. However, her future changed course after meeting and eventually marrying Henry. After the couple established a family of three boys, who were now well along in school, Grace joined the family business, Alderfer Transportation, as a school bus driver. Grace was one of the first female school bus drivers in the Souderton School District in the early 1960's (she was a petite woman and so her father, Rob, installed wooden blocks on the accelerator and brake pedals so that she could reach them). Grace drove school bus for more than 20 years before ending her work career at Harleysville Insurance Companies. In 1992, she and Henry, moved to Ocala, FL where they lived until 2006. While in Ocala, they were active members of Joy Lutheran Church. They returned to Pennsylvania taking up residence in Telford. They also returned to Christ Lutheran Church in Kulpsville where they had been very active members prior to moving to Ocala. Grace was very active in a knot-quilting ministry at both churches. After Henry's death, Grace returned to Harleysville to reside at Peter Becker Community.

Grace is survived by three sons, Thomas and his wife, Sandra of Pennsburg; Steven and his wife, Linda of Harleysville; and Rick and his wife, Pam of Leesburg, Virginia; 6 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Larry Alderfer of Florida and Brian Alderfer and his wife Sherry of Florida; a sister-in-law Regina Alderfer of Harleysville; and many nieces and nephews. Grace was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Benny) Alderfer and two sisters, Janice Joss and Brenda Bonheim.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Tuesday, April 5 at 12 noon at Christ Lutheran Church, 2211 Mainland Road, Harleysville, PA 19438. The family will greet guests from 11:00 am to 12 noon. A private family burial will be conducted prior to the service.
