George Lewis Wetzel, 92, of Franconia Township, PA, passed away Wednesday morning, March, 30, 2022. He was the husband of the late Anita (Johnson) Wetzel who passed away October 4, 2007. They had been married for 48 years at the time of her passing and had formerly lived in Schwenksville, PA.
Born March 15, 1930, in Lansdale, PA, he was a son of the late George Wetzel and Grace (Freed) Wetzel Jernigan. He was also the stepson of the late Ernest Jernigan who helped raise him since he was a child. A United States Army veteran, he honorably served as a paratrooper during the Korean War.
Mr. Wetzel was employed by Last Chance Construction of Philadelphia, PA for most of his career. He restored buildings for the University of Pennsylvania as well as many historical mansions throughout the city. He later worked for Rulon, drove bus for the former New Life Boy's Ranch, and worked daily on the interior and exterior of the property of the dental office where he lived in Franconia, PA. Of course, he often ran errands for the family and their many friends and was a big help to all. He formerly attended Calvary Church of Souderton, PA and was an avid golfer and voracious Parcheesi player. He was happiest surrounded by his beloved family, watching Westerns and eating ice cream.
Surviving is a son, Steve Wetzel of East Greenville, PA; two daughters, Kim Clerkin and her husband, Tom, of Devon, PA, and Donna Daschbach of Franconia, PA and her fiancé Paul Faulkner of Chalfont, PA; seven grandchildren, Vanessa (Travis), Jackie, Mandy (Kevin), Sienna (Ronnie), Madisen, Tom (Jenny), and Courtney (Eric); and eight great grandchildren, Cole, Logan, Ty, Blake, Colton, Levi, Amelia and Camryn.
