George J. Manser, Jr., age 89, of Harleysville Pa., and formerly of Lincoln Park, New Jersey, by way of New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. He was the beloved husband of Lillian Manser, sharing 68 cherished years of marriage.
Born in Manhattan, N.Y., George was the son of the late Barbara and George Manser.
George hailed from the South Bronx. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. After military service, George built a career at MaBSTOA (Manhattan and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority), first as a bus driver and then as a chassis maintainer and shop steward – retiring after 35 years!
George was a proud member of the American Legion. He also found joy in playing for the Over the Hill Gang softball team, where his teammates fondly referred to him as "Budweiser George".
In his retirement he loved spending time with his dog Jonah and enjoyed serving as a crossing guard where he quickly earned the title of "Waving George".
In addition to his devoted wife Lillian, George is survived by his loving daughter, Kim Gottshall, her Husband Ryan, and their three children – Julia, Hannah, and Ryan Jr. –whom he adored. He also leaves behind many dear friends in N.Y., N.J., FL., VA., PA., and CA.; Godchildren nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly, as well as cherished family from Connecticut. All will remember fondly his great sense of humor; he will be forever missed.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate George's life at a Mass of Christian Burial, which will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, January 15, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church, 1601 Derstine Road, Hatfield, PA 19440. A viewing will precede the service from 9:30 to 11:15 AM at the same location.
A graveside service with military honors will follow on Thursday, January 16, at 11 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA 18940.
