George Richard Briner, age 87, of Telford, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, June
11, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn (Shelly) Briner, with whom he shared
66 years of marriage. Born August 12, 1935, in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late
George Wolfgang and Dorothy May (Fisher) Briner.
After graduating from Ursinus College, George served as a First Lieutenant in the
United States Marine Corps from 1957-1961 and was proudly stationed in Okinawa,
Japan. Several years later he joined Shelly Brothers Inc., his wife's family business,
where he progressed from the packaging floor to president of the company. After selling
the company in 1991, he ended his professional career serving as a PA. food inspector
before finally retiring in 2015.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served as vice president of the
Franconia Township Lions Club. George was meticulous in everything he did, especially
maintaining his house both inside and out. He enjoyed listening to smooth
jazz while spending time with his family, especially when they would come to visit and
swim in the pool.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, he is survived by his two children, Kimberly Wreath and
her husband Michael of Lansdale, and Jonathan Briner and his wife Robyn of Laguna
Niguel, CA; grandchildren Emily, Kat, Adam, Hailey, Nicholas, and Owen; sister Jean
Reinhold of Leesport, PA; and nieces Sharon and Lynne of West Reading, PA.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Williams-
