Obituary

Franklin B. Landis, 85, a resident of Souderton, PA, since 1993, passed away Monday evening, February 7, 2022, at Souderton Mennonite Homes. He and his wife, Virginia (Moyer) Landis, observed their 65 th wedding anniversary on September 1 st of last year. They had formerly resided in Franconia, PA and Lederach, PA.

Born March 1, 1936, on the family farm in Chalfont, PA, he was a son of the late Paul and Anna (Barndt) Landis. Following school and work on the family farm, he worked in masonry for the late Elmer Strouse before serving in 1-W service in Red Bank, NJ. He then bought and operated a huckster route before purchasing a delicatessen stand in Chester, PA, which he ran for many years. From 1986-1997, he drove bus for Perkiomen Tours, leading vacation trips mostly east of the Mississippi River. Prior to retirement, he also drove bus for Klein Transportation and was the former owner of Towne Restaurant in Telford, PA.

Mr. Landis was baptized at Line Lexington Mennonite Church, upon marrying Virginia he transferred his membership to Franconia Mennonite Church.  They were active in the Youth Group during the '70's and took part in small group activities. He also helped on Mennonite Disaster Service trips and assisted with the Vietnamese families and Sudanese boys. He enjoyed volunteering his time driving the bus for the African Children's Choir and was known as "Uncle Frank" to the children. His hobbies included travel, boating at Lake Wallenpaupack, reading, gospel music and listening to motivational speakers.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Jeffrey R. Landis and his wife, Cindy, of Youngstown, OH, and Randy L. Landis and his wife, Tammy, of Souderton, PA; two daughters, Brenda S. Nice and her husband, Tim, of Harleysville, PA, and Pamela J. Brunner and her husband, Andy, of Souderton, PA; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and a great great grandson. He is also survived by a sister, Gladys Alderfer and a brother-in-law, Henry Moore. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Moore; a brother, Richard Landis and his wife, Doris; a brother-in-law, Willard Alderfer; and an infant sister, Arlene Landis.

Family will receive friends from 1-2:45pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at Franconia Mennonite Church, 613 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA, with the public memorial service beginning at 3pm. The service will be livestreamed and can be viewed by clicking HERE .  The graveside service and burial will be private for the most immediate family in the church cemetery.
