Obituary

Francis Xavier "Frank" Welsh Jr. of Green Lane (formerly Perkasie) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, aged 77 years.  Born in Philadelphia, PA on April 14, 1944, he was raised in Hatfield, PA, the son of Francis X. Welsh, Sr. and Mary S. Welsh (nee Votoupal), and was the beloved husband of Sara Ann Welsh (nee Hayes), with whom he celebrated 56 loving years of marriage on March 12 th .

Frank graduated from Lansdale Catholic High School, class of 1962, and served in the US Navy for two years active duty, and four years on reserve.  After his honorable discharge, he pursued and was awarded a Bachelors of Science from LaSalle University in 1978.  Frank had a long career, which he enjoyed tremendously.  He enjoyed long-term employment with PhilCo-Ford, RCA/Sarnoff Labs-Princeton, Radiation Sciences Inc., and later as an independent consultant for Omega Systems, Retliff Testing Laboratories, and other various contract jobs.  Frank loved any opportunity to utilize his technical skills and love of math and science and held a certificate in electronic forensics. He was proud of his work in robotics, his role in the development of the PulseOx, his partnership in obtaining a US Patent for the SwapperStopper, writing code, and developing programming. He was also a specialist in the field of Electromagnetic Interference, earning himself the moniker of "The EMI-Guy."

The only things Frank loved more than his career was his faith, his family and friends, and service to others.  He was a devout parishioner of St. Agnes Parish, Sellersville, and held on to his deeply rooted faith to his last breath.  During his time as at St. Agnes Parish, he served as a Eucharistic Minister as well as an Usher and Lector. Frank loved the company of his family and his friends, and greatly loved an animated discussion of current events, civics, and faith, and welcomed lively debates.  He served his community as a Pennridge School Board Member in the mid-nineties.  He enjoyed music immensely and passed this love on to his five children. He never turned down an opportunity to catch a live opera or a James Taylor or Neil Diamond concert and loved De Sales University's annual Shakespeare Festival.  Frank was an amateur astronomer, and was passionate about studying the universe, the stars, and their secrets via telescope, and equally loved the opportunity to explore it further with his kids and grandkids at the Fells Planetarium and the IMAX at the Franklin Institute.  He also enjoyed philosophy and held a great fondness of Greek history and mythology. In later years, Frank took advantage of being semi-retired, and he and Sara enjoyed adventuring to many places around the world, including camping across the US, various cruises taken with friends and family, and trips to Greece, Ireland, England, France, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and more.

In addition to his wife Sara, Frank is survived by his five children:  his son, Steve (Mary) of Nesquehoning, PA, and his four daughters, Christine (Todd) of Quakertown, PA, Susan (Javier) of Green Lane, PA, Colleen (Derek) of Point Pleasant, NJ, Rachel (Terence) of Collegeville; his Grandchildren Tonia, Christopher, Gabriel, Corey, Megan (Jason), Katie, Aidan, Liam, Gavin, and Josie, as well as three Great-Grand Children: Logan, Andi Jean, and Mariana. He is also survived by his siblings Mary Ann of Spring Mount, PA, Geraldine (Ralph) of Lansdale, PA, and John ("Jack") of Philadelphia, Pa, his brother-in-law Joseph of Philadelphia, PA, and by many beloved nieces and nephews.  Frank was predeceased by his parents, and by his sisters Louise Ditsche and Catherine "Cathy" Perillo.

Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 9:30-10:45 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 445 N. Main Street, Sellersville, PA,18960, followed by a Memorial Mass at 11AM on Wednesday, March 23.  Interment will be private.
