Erna Goetter, 97, a resident of Telford, PA, passed away early Monday evening, September 18, 2023, at the Lutheran Community.
Born November 20, 1925, in Detroit Michigan, her parents were Alfred and Erna Windhorst and were first generation immigrants from Germany who met on the boat on the way to America. Erna had one sibling, Alfred, who was a year younger than her and graduated with high honors from the University of Pennsylvania Law school. Erna graduated from Hatfield High School in 1943, attended Lansdale Business School and worked at a number of financial institutions until retiring in 1988. She always said she loved working with numbers! Erna was an active member of Little Zion Lutheran Church and worked in various capacities including the finance committee for many years. Erna also enjoyed quilting and was a member of the Hatfield Museum and Historical Society.
Erna was preceded in death by her first husband, George Murphy, on December 9, 1997, after 52 years of marriage. Erna was preceded in death by her second husband, John Goetter, on August 12, 2022, after 22 years of marriage.
Surviving Erna's first marriage are two sons, George Murphy and his wife, Nelda, of Whitehouse, Texas, and Thomas Murphy and his wife, Donna, of Pocono Lake, Pennsylvania. Erna had 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Surviving Erna's second marriage are three stepchildren; Andrea Liedlich and her husband, Bill, of Allentown, Carol Perry of Hatfield and John C.H. Goetter of New Ringold; five grandchildren, Joanna, Cara, Gregory, Kyle and Joshua; and four great grandchildren Charlotte, Ryan, Liam and Evan.
Services will be held at Little Zion Lutheran Church at Indianfield in Telford, PA on Monday, September 25th with visitation from 10 to 11 AM, service from 11-12, and burial and luncheon to follow service. All are welcome. Arrangements are by the Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, Inc. of Telford, PA. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.WilliamsBergeyKoffel.com.
