Obituary

Elaine L. Bergey, 92, of Souderton, PA, died on April 19, 2024.  She was the wife of Norman B. Bergey, Jr. since September 30, 1950, and he preceded her in death in 1984. She was the mother of LeeAnn (Glenn Esbenshade), Susan (Ed Borkowski), Faye, Nancy (Rick Dougherty), Norman S. (Carolyn Althouse), Dana, and Terry Bergey.  She was the grandmother of 11: Jessica, (Eric) Grady, Reuben Stoltzfus (Kylie Brubaker), Nathan Landis (Becky Drake), Patrick, Quinn, Owen, (Maria Ross), Alison Dougherty, Scott (Katie Fee), Sam Bergey, Edison (Jessica Spachman), and Mike (Alyssa Alderfer) Bergey. She was the great grandmother of 15: Madeline, James Grady, Dorothy, June, Royce, Eldon Stoltzfus, Lily, Leah, Laura, Lucy Landis, Jayden, Elijah, Josiah, Ezra, and Layna Bergey.  She was also preceded in death by a son David, and two grandsons, Bryant Bergey and Myron Landis.

Elaine was the oldest daughter of Pearl L. and Jonas W. Bergey; she is survived by her sister Marlene L. Stutzman and was preceded in death by her brother Gerald Bergey and her brother-in-law, Kenneth Stutzman.  She graduated from Collegeville-Trappe High School in 1949 and was employed by Harleysville Insurance Company until she started her family.

She joined the Upper Skippack Mennonite congregation until she transferred her membership to Franconia Mennonite congregation where she was a pianist and sang in the chorus.  She later attended Calvary Church of Souderton.  She volunteered for the Care and Share Thrift Shop, Souderton and Grandview Hospital, Sellersville.

Elaine's passion was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; she especially treasured time with her family that included trips to the beach, mountains, graduations, performances, and sporting events.  She was very close with her sister and maintained lifelong friendships with her high school classmates. With her husband, Elaine enjoyed traveling on business trips and after his passing, she traveled with family and friends to Europe, Australia and throughout the states.  She was an avid reader and she loved flowers. She was an active member of the Meadow-Wood Garden Club.

A celebration of Elaine's life will be held at Williams-Bergey-Koffel Funeral Home, 667 Harleysville Pike, Telford, PA 18969 on Tuesday, April 23, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with calling hours beginning at 4 p.m.  For those unable to attend the service it can be viewed by clicking HERE.
