Obituary

With deep love and unshakable faith, we share that Donald Samuel Hoff, Sr., of Harleysville, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully at home on February 5, 2026, surrounded by his family. He is now rejoicing in eternal life with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Donald was born in North Wales, Pennsylvania, on November 2, 1934, to the late Donald and Glovine Hoff. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Vandegrift.

Following his service in the United States Marine Corps, Don lived a full and steady life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of everyday living. A man who believed in showing up and doing things well, he took great pride in building something with his own hands. With an entrepreneurial spirit and a strong work ethic, he owned and operated a lawn mower shop and a home remodeling business before going on to establish and run the Harleysville Hardware store for many years. Through his work and relationships, Don became known not only for his practical knowledge, reliability, and genuine willingness to help others, but also for his ability to put people at ease. He was equally known for his quick wit and one-liner jokes, which brought laughter and encouragement to those around him. Don had a way of making people feel welcomed in his presence.

Outside of work, Don found his greatest joy in family and the outdoors. He loved boating, attending Southern gospel concerts, and cheering on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at their sporting events and extracurricular activities. He took pride in maintaining his property, spending countless hours mowing, fixing, and improving things around his home and shop. Whether repairing equipment, working with his hands, or fishing peacefully in his pond, he was happiest when he was busy, productive, and surrounded by the people and places he loved.

Above all, Don's life was grounded in his faith. A born-again Christian, he loved Jesus and carried Christ in his heart. His faith gave him peace, purpose, and quiet confidence, especially in the assurance of where his forever home would be. He lived anchored in God's promises, and that hope sustained him throughout his life and into eternity.

Don was a devoted family man and is survived by his wife of 68 years, Barbara A. Hoff, his children: Kenneth M. Hoff; Donald S. Hoff, Jr. (Ruth); Timothy C. Hoff (Ruth); and Becki L. Hartzell (Douglas); along with 12 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. He was lovingly known to all as "Poppop" and leaves behind a legacy of love, dependability, faith, and quiet generosity that will continue to live on through the many lives he touched.

A celebration of Don's life will be held on February 15, 2026, at Hopewell Christian Fellowship, 601 Hunsicker Road, Telford, Pennsylvania 18969. A receiving line with light refreshments will be held from 4:00–6:00 p.m., followed by the service at 6:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Hoving Home , a ministry he loved and supported, in his memory.
