Obituary

Dennis James Farrell, age 74, of Telford, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Susan (Graham) Farrell, with whom he shared over 22 years of marriage.

In addition to his wife Susan, he is survived by his daughters, Gabrielle Carleen and Rebecca Inman and her husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Dennis and Melissa Carleen, Holden, and Brynlee and Braydon Inman; siblings, Raymond Farrell and his wife, Susan, Noreen Hickey and her partner, Peter Doncourt, and Steven Farrell and his wife, Jeanmarie. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his sister, Gigi Carey.

Dennis was born on November 11, 1948, in Manhattan. He was a son of the late Raymond and Vera (Feldscher) Farrell. He attended various schools in the greater New York City area and graduated from Cardinal Spellman High School, Bronx, NY in 1966.

At the age of 17, with his parents' permission, and with his lifelong friend, James, at his side, Dennis enlisted in the Navy. He served two tours of duty during the Vietnam War aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid, where he held the position of firefighter and damage controlman. With his shipmates, he celebrated his first crossing of the Equator, sailing around the Cape of Good Hope, and through the Suez Canal. Dennis's ship, Intrepid, is now a maritime museum in New York Harbor.

After leaving the Navy, Dennis attended Manhattan Community College, initially studying for a college level program as an EMT, but eventually changing his focus to Nursing. He received his nursing training at MCC, part of the City University of New York, and received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Adelphi University. He re-enlisted in the military; this time in the Army and made the Army his career.

During his years of service, he obtained two Masters Degrees, a Master of Science in Nursing, and another in Business Administration at the University of Pennsylvania and the Wharton School.

Dennis retired from the Army in 1992 after a total of twenty-three years of military service. He rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his career, he was stationed at the military hospitals at Fort Dix, and West Point, he served as an Army Recruiter in New York City, he served at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii and ended his career back at Fort Dix.

After leaving the Army, Dennis began a civilian healthcare career in various community and hospital based administrative positions- Home Care, Healthcare Quality and Process Improvement, Regulatory and Hospital Compliance, and Risk Management. He was brilliant at data management and analysis- always to help find ways to improve.

Dennis was as a strong and patient man with a great sense of humor and hearty laugh. He loved nothing better than to sit with a group of family and friends, joking and laughing. He was a kind and supportive friend. He loved being a mentor. Dennis always sought to educate himself; he never stopped learning.

Dennis loved the theater and all kinds of music. He loved to read, especially biographies and history books. Later in life, he loved to travel.

One of his greatest joys was to sit outside on a lovely day, on the patio, or perhaps with his favorite book on the banks of the Delaware River at Washington Crossing, just enjoying the peace and glory of the day.

He will be forever missed.
