Obituary

Delourse (Jeanne) Young, age 92, of Harleysville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, June 27, 2026. Born on September 7, 1933, in Norwich, New York. She was the beloved wife of the late Donald Young, with whom she shared more than 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Jeanne graduated from East Stroudsburg State Teachers College in 1954 with a degree in English and Health and Physical Education. She enjoyed a fulfilling career teaching Health and Physical Education at Doylestown High School before later teaching at Unami Junior High School. She also served as head field hockey coach for ten years, inspiring countless young women through her encouragement, leadership, and enthusiasm. Above all, she was remembered not only as an exceptional teacher and coach, but as someone who genuinely cared about every student she met.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Jeanne was an active member of the Lutheran Church throughout her life. Her faith shaped the way she lived, leading with compassion, humility, gratitude, and love. She found great joy in serving others and building meaningful relationships within her church community.

Jeanne embraced life with a joyful spirit that was contagious. She was blessed with many lifelong friendships and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her optimism, warm smile, and generous heart brightened every room she entered.

She loved spending time on the golf course, playing bridge with her dear friends, and expressing her creativity through sewing. An incredibly talented seamstress, Jeanne lovingly created beautiful quilts and treasured Halloween costumes for her grandchildren, gifts that will forever be cherished. She was also a wonderful cook and baker, especially known for her delicious homemade pancakes.

Above all else, Jeanne's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother and an adoring grandmother who was deeply involved in every aspect of her grandchildren's lives. Whether cheering from the sidelines, celebrating milestones, offering words of encouragement, or simply spending time together, she made each grandchild feel uniquely loved and supported. She also cherished her great-grandchildren, who lovingly referred to her as "Gigi."

Jeanne's legacy is one of love, faith, service, and joy. She taught by example, loved unconditionally, and made the lives of everyone around her brighter through her kindness and compassion. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the values she instilled, and the love she shared will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, former students, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
