Delbert Ray Thompson, age 82, of Lansdale, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2023. He was the beloved husband of the late Charlotte Elaine (Stevens) Thompson, with whom he shared over 37 years of marriage.
Born July 12, 1940, in Beulaville, North Carolina, he was one of 15 children born to the late Oscar Sr. and Eva (Turner) Thompson.
Ray settled in Pennsylvania as a teenager, following a brother and sister who were living in the area. Ray worked briefly for Valley Forge Metals in Lansdale, and then finished his career with Precision Tube in North Wales after working with them for more than 40 years, retiring in 2005. He also worked a part time job each evening at Slotter's Arco in Kulpsville, known in the area as Windy's. He worked there for many years, meeting new friends, and becoming close with the station owner. Ray also enjoyed card games with his friends at the Cannoneers Sportmens Club on Friday evenings.
He is survived by his children, Michele Gross and her husband, Phil, of Telford, and Jeffrey Thompson and his wife, Lori, of Lansdale; siblings, Carolyn Creel of Pink Hill North Carolina, and Cecil Thompson and his wife, Bev, of Sophia North Carolina; brother-in-law, David Magill and his wife, Alice Gloor, of N. Fort Meyers Florida; niece, Pat Gauger and her husband, Don; nephew, Steve Magill and his wife, Diane; and great nephews, Chris and Tom Gauger. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends in North Carolina and Pennsylvania. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by sister-in-law, Patricia (Stevens) Magill and many family members and friends in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.
A graveside service for Ray will take place at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 20, 2023, at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery, 2211 Mainland Road, Harleysville PA 19438.
