Obituary

David L. Williams, Jr., age 74, of Telford, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Charlotte L (Block) Williams, with whom he shared over 44 years of marriage.

Born March 3, 1949, in Champaign Illinois, he was a son of David L. Williams, Sr. and the late Audrylee (McCann) Williams. The family moved to Maryland in 1964.

David graduated from the University of Maryland with a B.S. degree in Chemistry. He served 4 ½ years in the Air Force as an Aerospace Munitions Officer. He went to the University of Iowa where he received his Ph. D. in Biochemistry in 1981. David continued with his Post Doctoral studies at the National Institutes of Health in the Heart, Blood and Lung Institute in Bethesda Maryland. David accepted a position at Merck Sharp and Dohme as a Senior Research Scientist in Pharmacology. He was at Merck for 30 years. After retiring from Merck, he took a position at the National Institutes of Health as Scientific Review Officer. He retired from NIH in 2019.

He was a very talented guitarist. He enjoyed playing all types of guitars, from acoustic, electric, and steel to guitars made from cigar boxes and 2 x 4's, the diddley bow. He also played the mandolin. He loved making music. He was active in the music program at Christ Covenant Church and served on several committees at the church. He loved writing poetry, painting with watercolors. He loved to garden, cook and bake. David enjoyed traveling, especially where he could use his foreign language skills. He loved playing the most difficult and complicated board games. Reading was a great passion.

In addition to his wife, Charlotte, and father, David Sr., David is survived by his daughters Emily L. Williams and Abigail L. Williams (Michael Resnick); a brother, Robbie L. Williams (Shearon); a niece, Amy Wright (Faber); nephews, Dan Williams and Andrew Williams, and several great nieces.

A memorial service for David will take place at Christ Covenant Church, on May 11, 2024, at 11:00 am, where the family will greet guests beginning at 9:30 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in David's name may be made to the Music Program at Christ Covenant Church or the Amyloidosis Foundation.
