David F. Miller

David F. Miller, 93, of Souderton, PA, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 21, 2026. David was born November 8, 1932, in Portage County, Ohio and was the son of the late John G. and Niva Mae (Christner) Miller.

He was raised on a dairy farm and graduated from Streetsboro High School in Streetsboro, Ohio. David spent over two years in voluntary service in Newton, Kansas and Reedley, California where he met his future bride. On October 10, 1953, he married Martha P. Short in Wauseon, Ohio, beginning a marriage which lasted 56 years until her passing in 2010.

David’s early career included work as a mason and later a partnership in Aurora Masonry. Sensing a call to ministry, he earned his BA in Bible from Eastern Mennonite College, now Eastern Mennonite University (EMU, Harrisonburg, VA) in 1961. He was ordained as pastor at his home congregation, Aurora Mennonite Church (now Living Hope of Aurora) in Ohio where he served the congregation faithfully for 15 years. During this time, David held revival meetings in numerous states, served as an area overseer, and was an insurance agent.

Joining EMU’s Church and Development Relations in 1977, David culminated his 20 year career as Vice President for Advancement. After retiring, he completed his Master of Divinity from Eastern Mennonite Seminary. Subsequently, the Lord provided a vision to found Miller Ministries in which he was a capital campaign consultant with many Christian churches, institutions, and agencies for more than 15 years.

In recent years, David was a member of Souderton Mennonite Church, Souderton, PA. During his lifetime, he enjoyed family time, hunting, fishing, sports (both as a player and a fan), reading, fundraising, and traveling. David’s life was one of Christian service - to his church, his community, and the institutions he loved. He is known for his love of studying scripture and authoring meditations as well as his devotion to daily prayer time for family, relatives and friends. David’s decades of ministry and mentorship leave a legacy of faith and generosity that will continue through the many lives he touched.

David is survived by his children, Sue Miller of Souderton, PA; Nancy and husband Steven Heatwole of Harrisonburg, VA; Luke and wife Denise (Yoder) Miller of Minneapolis, MN; and Linda and husband Cory Longacre of Telford, PA. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Sherri (Caleb) Wooten and Scott Heatwole, children of Nancy and Steven; Nicole Miller and Samantha Miller, children of Luke and Denise; and Olyvia (Amanda) Longacre, Davry Longacre, and Zeke Longacre, children of Linda and Cory; as well as two great-grandsons, Bennett and Waylon, sons of Sherri and Caleb Wooten.

He was preceded in death by eight siblings, George Miller, Arland Miller, John Miller, Grace Nussbaum, Hazel Kinzer, Mary Louise Miller, Paul Miller, and James Miller.

On Sunday, September 13, 2026, family will receive family and friends at a Viewing & Visitation from 12:45 - 2:15pm followed by a 2:30pm Celebration of Life service at Souderton Mennonite Homes (207 W. Summit Street, Souderton, PA). Everyone is also invited to a Meal & Memory Sharing following the service at Souderton Mennonite Church (105 W. Chestnut Street, Souderton, PA). Burial will be private.
