David Lee Mertz, 86, of Lansdale, PA, passed away on Thursday, July 30, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Miriam (Dietrich) Mertz.
Born May 6, 1940, in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Maurice Mertz and Anna (Walbert) Mertz. He was a graduate of Schuylkill Valley High School, Class of 1958.
David proudly served in the United States Air Force from June 1958 to March 1963.
He worked as a metallurgist with Carpenter Steel in Reading, specializing in specialty stainless steel, and held a patent for corrosion-resistant stainless steel. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lansdale. In his free time, he enjoyed professional photography, custom woodworking, tennis, and biking trails across various states, along with a love of travel.
In addition to his wife Miriam, David is survived by his daughters, Kristin Peacock (Mark), and Stacy Morris (William Todd); his grandchildren, Annalee Peacock, Zack Peacock, Dr. Elizabeth Freeman (Alec), and Rachel Stephens (Connor); and his great-grandson, Arthur Freeman.
He was predeceased by his brother, Barry Mertz, who passed away in May 2026.
A graveside service will be held Friday, August 14, at 2:00 PM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA 18940. Those attending please arrive at cemetery office by 1:45 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Property Fund, 1000 W. Main Street, Lansdale, PA, 19446 or to the American Heart Association .
